Nigeria is bleeding silently.

Not just from hunger, hardship, banditry, and insecurity,but from betrayal.

They told us democracy means government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

They told us primary elections were the only chance for citizens to choose those who would represent them in the general elections.

But today, democracy has lost its voice, and power has taken its place.

People stand for hours under the scorching sun just to vote.

Some travel from far villages, spending the little transport money they struggled to get.

They leave their homes with hope, believing their voices matter.

The continuous killings in Bokkos, Riyom, Bassa, Barkin Ladi, and Mangu Local Government Areas (LGAs) have left a painful scar on the soul of Plateau State. Day after day, innocent lives are cut short, families are torn apart, communities are destroyed, and the cries of helpless people continue to echo across our land.

Children who should be enjoying the warmth of a family now wake up as orphans. Women who once had loving husbands now carry the painful burden of widowhood. Elderly parents are left to bury their children, while countless families have been forced to flee their ancestral homes, uncertain of where their next meal or shelter will come from.

It is no news that Abia State did not have elected Local Government Chairmen in the 17 local Government Councils at the time Dr. Alex Otti was sworn in as the elected Governor of Abia State. Aware of the enormous task ahead of him and the administration he represents in Abia state, and very confident of the place of the local government in the delivery of democracy dividends and development of the state generally, he appointed credible people to man the affairs of each of the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Abia State pending the time election is conducted to elect people into office at the 17 local government Councils. The head, Executive of each of the 17 Councils and their Deputies were named by the Governor, Dr Alex Otti as Mayors and Deputy Mayors respectively.

The word “South-South,” even though it may sound absurd, is a name we have come to accept as a people. We can’t say exactly how we came about to be identified with the name neither can we say exactly when we were given the name, but we just know it is our name. While growing up back in the days, geography taught us about “the North,” “the South,” “The East” and “The West.” For proper definition of locations, we were also told about “The Northwest, NorthEast, Southwest and SouthEast” I can’t remember anything like the “NorthNorth”, “SouthSouth”, “EastEast” or Westwest , but here I am today, writing a letter to my South-South brethren. That is what happens to a people that are not in control of their Cultural Development or the Political and Economic Future.
