Ecological issues have gradually moved beyond the parameters of the public domain, in terms of issues for the government to handle, to matters of religious and spiritual concerns. This is evident from writings and teachings of the Popes and other religious and spiritual leaders, groups and bodies such as the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology, and Alliance of Religion and Conservation, over recent years. These groups emerged because environmental challenges should not be left for the government alone to respond to or tackle.

INTRODUCTION

The Igbos stretch across River Niger, from the West of Agbor to Cross River; moving from North of Nsukka highlands, to some parts of the Atlantic Coast. Igbos are largely the occupants of the South-Eastern part of Nigeria, where they are found majorly in Anambra, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu states. A large number of them are also found in Delta, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states (Enechukwu, 2016).

TRADITIONAL MUSIC AND DANCE: AN OVERVIEW AND THEIR ROLE AMONG THE IGBO PEOPLE

There is a saying that people without knowledge of their culture are like people without history.

The culture of a people is a reflection of their way of life that gives them their specific cultural identity (Eke: 2007).  Culture is a set of beliefs, practices and symbols that are learned and shared. Together they form an all-encompassing integrated whole that binds people together and shapes their worldviews and life ways.

THE RIGWE NATION OF PLATEAU STATE, HOST OF THE 2024 INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY IN JOS PLATEAU STATE

Kudos to the Rigwe Nation, the 2024 host of the International Museum Day in Jos, Plateau state, for their very wonderful outing that ensured massive attendance, wide jubilation and generous display of various forms of heritage, traditional and cultural entertainment packages by different Rigwe cultural groups that comprise the old and young, the male and female and multiple other activities ranging from preparation of local cuisines to significant improvement through additional traditional architectural works introduced by the Rigwe Nation at the Rigwe compound located inside the Jos National Museum premises. Representation by the men and women of Rigwe land signifying ancient appearances and dressings of Men and Women of different times and events were visible at the 2024 International Museum Day celebration in Jos, Plateau state hosted by the Rigwe Nation on Saturday, May 18th 2024. It is on record that the 2024 host attracted the participation of almost all the indigenous ethnic groups in Plateau state who also displayed their own cultural activities.

Massive attendance, wide spread jubilation, and display of multiple categories of traditional and cultural entertainment packages by different groups and communities in Plateau state are the visible attractions that added beauty and glamour to the 2024 International Museum Day celebration that held Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Jos Museum, in Plateau State, North Central, Nigeria.
