| From the Special Practical Phase of the training |
A popular saying has it that "Beliefs are harder to shake than knowledge".
In this piece, my focus is to discuss this age long popular axiom, with regard to what is expected in reality from the participants of the ongoing skills acquisition training programme in Film Making and Creative Media Production that the African Film Institute is conducting in the serene and captivating City of Jos, the Plateau state capital, North Central Nigeria.
This discourse is essential, not only to the participants of the ongoing skill acquisition and empowerment training in Jos, but to all learners in the various areas of human endeavor. The benefit is not limited to the learners of various skills, it is also vital for the practitioners, especially, those that are desirous of creating impact in their area of endeavor. The focus of the discourse is the mind of the reader, while the objective is to create a fundamental shift in the reader's mind, thought processes and arouse interest and stimulate the desire to aspire and think differently. It is therefore, a deliberate attempt to task the reader to see things, and interrogate the ideas and reasoning behind them, even the common and generally accepted.

From what I have observed by following the few activities of the African Film Institute (AFI) that came my way, it is glaring that the institute like me, does not align with this age long fundamental assumption and saying of many people that "Beliefs are harder to shake than knowledge".
While I can comfortably speak for myself on the assertion above, I make bold to declare that my position on it, as far as the African Film Institute is concerned, is assumptive. My conclusion on the matter, in relation with the institute, stems purely from observation and close monitoring of the training activities of the institute by Scoreline.
Early this year, 2025, Scoreline published a report of three days, groundbreaking and life transforming training conducted by the institute in Jos, Plateau state. The focus of that training was investigative journalism. It was organized under the caption Investigative Journalism Africa (IJA).
The ongoing skill acquisition training conducted by the institute is the second that Scoreline is witnessing.
Unlike the first training, the ongoing one is centered on Film Making and Creative Media Production, and like the first, it is a remarkable and life changing, impact driven training programme. The previous one on investigative Journalism ran for three days and the ongoing one is designed to last for 6 months.
Think about the revelation above and begin now to cogitate as to why I made the conclusion concerning the AFI in this discourse.

The brief narrative above provides the reader with a little background of the institute’s activities in Jos, and a slight insight of what Scoreline knows about the Institute. It also sends a signal, though indirectly, sort of, of the direction the institute is headed. The direction, as referred to here, is basically, in the area of human capacity development, interest of the institute with regard to quality and commitment to excelling in life.
Deductively also, the above showcases a relationship between what is said here already about the institute and its operations and the conclusion I made regarding the age long axiomatic expression deposited at the beginning paragraph of this piece. The linkage will in due course become clearer as the reader keeps cogitating and reading.
Moving forward let me quickly note that I interacted with a randomly selected number of individuals at different locations and times. The goal was to ascertain their view, with regard to the assertion that “Beliefs are harder to shake than knowledge".

From the responses of those spoken to, I strongly hold the view that many people are in alignment with the above assertion. However, being aware essentially, of cravings of the African Film Institute for ideas engineering, competency-based learning and functional skills in the society, in this instance, by her trainees, I could conclusively assert that the AFI I know differs from the popular axiom “Beliefs are harder to shake than knowledge". I will explain.
To be concluded
