AFRICAN FILM INSTITUTE: FILM MAKING AND CREATIVE MEDIA PRODUCTION INTRODUCTORY CLASS COMES TO AN END

A typical introductory class session of the programme

The over one month introductory classes of the on-going, hands on, skill acquisition training, in Film Making and Creative Media Production, holding in Jos, the Plateau state capital, North Central Nigeria, has come to an end, and a new phase begins.

The entire skill acquisition training, in Film Making and Creative Media Production programme, which is designed to run for 6 months, between the last quarter of 2025 (October to December) and first quarter of 2026 (January to March), has entered the practical phase. Though, classes for this phase is yet to commence, the participants are busy conducting the activities required of them to ensure the phase runs smoothly, Scoreline reports.

The setup activities necessary for the practical classes of more than 10 different specialties has been going on in the last 3 weeks.

Few days ago, it was announced by the AFI Management that the setup requirement for commencement of the practical phase of the Film Making and Creative Media Production skills acquisition programme is completed, and classes to begin in earnest.

The African Film Institute (AFI) is implementing the programme, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, Nigeria, pursuant in part, to the realization of the goals and objectives of two Federal initiatives: the Innovative Development for Effectiveness in Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS), and the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET).

Going by the quality of work done by the resource persons during the more than one month introductory phase of the 6 months course, and what the set up for the practicals is revealing, it is quite obvious that what is happening in Plateau state, with regard to the programme has never been witnessed elsewhere in Nigeria.

Considering the quality, in terms of content, the delivery standard and techniques observed during the introduction session of the Film making and Media creation course, happening in Plateau state, it is pertinent to say that something new, very unique and empowering, never known in this side of the globe has emerged in the state.

From the obviously unrivaled package that the African Film Institute has introduced and made available through the over 300 people that assembled in Jos, the Plateau state as participants, male and female of different ethnic origin, age and experience, one thing is certain, the fact that the socio-economic landscape of Plateau state and Nigeria as a whole is changing for good.

With various types of film making equipment presently on ground at the venue of the programme, the caliber of resource persons and bearing in mind what the resource persons already did during the introductory classes, saying that the on-going skills acquisition course hosted in Plateau state by the African Film Institute is set for another landmark phase targeted at repositioning the more than 300 partcipants of the skill acquisition programme. However, it is the Plateau State and national economy that benefit most.

Nothing else can express this fact better, highlight and buttress it in a more meaningful manner than the already taken route, dimension and exposure that the participants have witnessed in the hands of the highly resourceful and enthusiastic facilitators of the programme.

According to some participants of the skill acquisition course in film making and Creative Media Production, introductory classes of the programme is the equivalent of 6 months of similar programmes in most places in the country.

Kudos African Film Institute...
